My Technique
I only work from photographs, which I use to achieve as much of a likeness as I can to the subject person(s). The rest of the portrait is up to my imagination and creativity.

If I know the subject, the complimentary accessorizing comes easy. If I don’t, I interview them or their family and friends so as to create the background, coloring and ornamentation that I feel suits them.

My goal is to have both the subject and client pleased with the outcome. I want the subject to feel special and flattered by my work.

For commissioned portraits, I require a 50% non-refundable deposit with the balance paid upon completion. I am happy to offer viewings and convey progress reports to the client and subject while my work is in progress. I readily accept feedback and suggestions. Keep in mind, though, that as others influence me on a piece, the essence of what people find so special about my artwork may diminish. Thus is the challenge of portraits.

I have never had a client renege and all have quite obviously enjoyed the final product. Some stare, some smile and some weep. All hug me.
