My Technique
I often look at magazines, newspapers and other forms of media, including photographs taken by my partner, to find images that trigger a desire to create what I see, or a variation thereof. With the exception of my commissioned portraits, my works are not replicas but rather the results of my imagination - fired by the image seen through my eyes. The background or accessorizing done on each piece is mine and mine alone. I blend colors and patterns to make anything from flowers to mottled skies to enhance or stabilize the primary image.

I have been passionate about colors and patterns all my life. I use fabric, texture and adornments in very unorthodox ways, breaking all the traditional rules I learned in my art classes. I am always on the lookout for fabric and textured / colored paper to add to my artwork.

I usually begin each piece with pencil, followed by pastels, acrylics and ink. I add the textures and accessories to my liking. I often end each piece, having come full circle, with pastels and acrylics to add shading and touch-up as needed.

These layered creations present quite a challenge for my framer, who has had to learn how to build in allowances for the rather thick end product. Viewing my pieces on the web or in photographs robs the viewer of this depth aspect; however, many clients say they have found even prints of my originals to be deeply intense additions to their homes or offices.
